After School Clubs
After school clubs are places for primary aged children to go after school to play, have fun and take part in organised games. These clubs will usually be based in schools and collect children directly from their classrooms or from other local schools in an agreed location. During the session children will be cared for by a team of playworkers who will plan activities, lead play sessions and provide a snack.
Many after school clubs are registered with OfSTED and all staff must have a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. At least 50% of staff must a relevant qualification in childcare although often this ratio is much higher.
After school clubs are usually open from the end of the school day until 6pm and you must ensure the children are collected before the end of the session as many clubs have penalties in place for late collection. At most clubs you will need to book a place in advance before sending your child and you may need to book regular sessions to make sure a place is available when you need it. Many after school clubs will be happy to offer you part-time childcare.
Breakfast Clubs
Breakfast clubs are specifically open early in the morning, usually between 7:30am-8:00am until school starts so children have a good breakfast and somewhere fun and safe to be at the beginning of the day. Many breakfast clubs are based in schools or community buildings near to school. Children will be escorted to their classrooms by the staff at the end of the session.

Holiday Playschemes
Holiday play schemes are specifically open during the school holidays. Their individual open times vary from full time care 8am to 6pm to half days. There a huge variety of schemes available throughout the school holidays so we always recommend contacting the provider directly to find out the specific of their project. Not all are open every school holiday.
